This privacy notice provides information on how Island Health collects, uses, and discloses your personal information when you participate in Island Health’s Code Hack event. Island Health is required under the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA) to notify you how we handle your personal information all throughout the event.

This notice specifically applies to the collection, use, and disclosure of your personal information when you register for Code Hack via Wix.

How we use your personal information:

Island Health will collect, use, and disclose your personal information pursuant to S. 26, 32, and 33 of FIPPA.

Registration

Before you register as a participant or volunteer for the event, Island Health will seek your consent to collect, use and disclose your personal information. During the application process via Wix, you will be required to provide your name and email address which are considered personal information. This data will be used to contact you regarding the status of your application and initiate your Code Hack app profile if your application is approved. Further, this data will be available to and may be used by Wix for website functionality and analytics.

Community Engagement

Island Health’s Code Hack platform is an authenticated web-based application hosted with Wix. Participants use the platform to collaborate and engage with each other during the event and may enter additional contact methods such as phone number or social media handles to be used by other participants and teammates. Island Health will monitor and store information about your interaction with other participants and volunteers when done within the application, similar to a forum or bulletin board. This data will be used by Island Health to facilitate and support the Code Hack in-person event, to improve event experience and community involvement. Your profile information and event-based engagement activities in Wix can be accessed by other participants and Island Health administrators. Access is limited to participants and Island Health administrators.

How Wix uses your information:

Wix is an Israeli-based company that processes your personal information within Israel. Wix’s data processing practice is governed by various privacy laws including EU’s General Data Protection  Regulation, which may differ from FIPPA.  

Please be aware that Wix may use the information you provide for their own purposes and beyond Island Health’s control. Wix will collect aggregated personal information, such as User’s browsing and click-stream activity on sessions, internet service provider, etc. Wix may also receive information about you from third-party sources, such as social media platforms, when you log-in or sign-up using your social media account and advertising and marketing partners in order to measure ad campaigns. Wix may also share your personal information to third party service providers and affiliated companies to provide you the services. 

We strongly encourage you to review Wix’s Privacy Policy to understand how they process your personal information. Island Health does not control and is not responsible for any action or policies of Wix and its third-party service providers. 

By participating in the event and registering via Wix, you acknowledge and agree to the collection, use, and disclosure of your personal information as described above.
